Frequently Asked Questions

WHY SHOULD I TAKE THE CANADIAN INSTITUTE OF ENGLSIH PROGRAMME WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER COURSES OFFERED?
  • We provide the most up-to-date and cutting-edge information on brain based learning and neuroscience as related to language acquisition.
  • We offer the MOST hands on, practical, interactive course on the market. University courses do not provide this much variety in dynamic skills and methods.
  • Learn where the thousands of jobs are and how to be your own "placement agency!"
  • Be introduced to methods that will expand your mind - the teaching possibilities will become endless.
  • We add a good dose of confidence building and motivational techniques for tired or new teachers.
  • Many comment that they wish they had known about our course before becoming committed to another... it doesn't even compare.
  • We have an extremely high success rate in helping people find work, jump start their ESL career, and start their own business.
  • We include a laughter clinic - emphasizing the importance of fun and humour in the classroom.
WHAT IS TESOL? ESL? TESL?
  • They are all acronyms that refer to teaching English. TESOL is a politically correct acronym that translates into Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages or Teaching English as a Second Or learned Language.

AM I ELIGIBLE?
  • YES – This course is open to anyone with a High School Diploma who would like to learn the latest methods of teaching English – for public or private use.
  • No High School Diploma? Learn how to earn your G.E.D. (General Equivalency Diploma for adults)
  • If you are enthusiastic, with a good grasp of the English language – we welcome you! Our students range from those who have recently graduated from High School, to retirees wanting to travel and earn money, to those looking for a new direction or career change.
WILL MY CERTIFICATE BE RECOGNIZED?
  • YES – our TESOL graduates are working in over 40 different countries around the world, including Canada and the U.S. Many international institutes contact us to request teachers who have been trained at our TESOL course. A TESOL certificate is a necessary addition to a degree (in education or other) if you plan to teach English in Canada or internationally. The certificate can stand alone if you wish to teach volunteer classes or privately from your home. On how to attain your degree while working abroad or in Canada/U.S., please contact the Degree Administration Office.
IS A 5 DAY COURSE REALLY LONG ENOUGH?
  • Of course, it is impossible to learn everything there is to learn about teaching a language in just a week. For that matter, it is also impossible to learn everything you would need to know in a month or even a year. When the 'learning' really sets in is once you step foot in a classroom or in front of a student. Interestingly, those who have taken longer courses (before they took ours) said that they had a lot of knowledge and theory, but had no idea of what to actually DO with 30 students for 3 hours. This is probably the biggest difference between us and other TESOL classes. We focus primarily on METHODS and use extremely interactive and effective ways of getting each and every student personally involved in the learning process - you learn by 'doing', not by 'hearing'. We find that this approach, instead of hours upon hours of lecturing, theory, pedagogy and useless information, is many times more beneficial. Because the program is based upon the latest research in 'Applied Neuroscience' (how the brain actually learns), it turns you into the most effective language teacher that you can personally be.
  • We also bear in mind that many of our students are already thousands of dollars in debt from their college or university education and don't have thousands to throw at long and drawn out TESOL courses - they need to get working.
