If for some unforeseen reason (such as a last minute emergency illness of instructor or an insufficient number of students) The Canadian Institute of English must cancel a TESOL class, a full refund (in the currency you paid in) will be immediately provided to all students who are fully paid and registered at the time of cancellation. We recommend you purchase refundable tickets and consider purchasing trip cancellation insurance. The Canadian Institute of English cannot be held responsible for losses due to currency fluctuations, travel or accommodation expenses or loss of work days.

What is a SLAM certificate for?
SLAM stands for (Second Language Acquisition Methodology) - which can apply to teaching ANY language, while TESOL stands for Teaching ENGLISH to Speakers of Other Languages and only applies to teaching English.  Even though the focus of the TESOL class is the best methods to teach English to speakers of other languages, there are often those who are bi-lingual or even tri-lingual who plan (or who may later decide) to use the methods they learn to teach a different language.

If you are fluent enough in another language to be able to teach conversation, then it can be beneficial to request the SLAM certificate.  You will have something on paper showing that you have taken a language acquisition and methodology course, and that you will apply those methods to the teaching of the language.

Your fluency in the chosen language is demonstrated when you teach some of that language to the others in class while utilizing and practicing some of the methods.
